Usui Reiki Healing System Overview

What is Reiki?

Approximately Seventy five years ago, Usui Sensei wrote:

"In times like these, the happiness of humanity is based on working together and the desire for social progress.... Each of us has the potential of being given a gift by the divine, which results in the body and soul becoming unified.... Through it (Reiki), the human being will first be made healthy, and then peace of mind and joy in life will be increased..." 

The Japanese word rei, means universal, and ki means life force energy. This life force energy, also known as prana in India, and Chi in China is present in all living things and is the key component to a vibrant existence. Reiki is not a religion. It is a hands-on healing system based on channeling universal life force energy. 

Reiki healing is not taught, but is rather transmitted as a series of attunements from a Reiki master/teacher to the student. Anyone, even children, can receive these attunements. The attunement process link individuals to the universal life force energy, and empowers them to transmit this energy for healing.

This universal life force energy is transmitted by placing the hands on or slightly above the recipient's body. The Reiki practitioner does not create or direct the energy, but merely transmits it from a universal source and the energy goes wherever it is needed for healing.

Reiki healing generally results in an overall relaxation response. It promotes the body's ability to heal itself. Recipients, who can be humans, or animals feel more calm, centered, and energized. Reiki supports all other treatment programs, including standard medical procedures. It revitalizes and accelerates the healing process, relieves physical and emotional blockages, calms the mind and stimulates more spiritual awareness.
